Ashlee Simpson's KY surprise

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz turned down a free 'KY Intimacy kit' for fear of infuriating Ashlee's father. Ashlee and Pete attended Chicago's Lollapalooza music festival, which he was hosting, and were offered promotional gifts by the event sponsors. The couple were said to be fearful of being photographed with the sex aid because Ashlee's manager father Joe, a former Baptist minister, would disapprove.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Pete was a host and Ashlee was his guest, but although they hit up a lot of the gifting suites, nobody got photos.

"They were given KY Intimacy kits, but they wouldn't take photos with them.

"They were both overheard saying how Ashlee's dad would murder them if they started showing off that stuff."

Strict Joe likes his daughters Ashlee and Jessica to maintain a wholesome image.

He recently forced Jessica, 27, to turn down a potentially Oscar-winning role as a porn star - insisting she keep her clothes on.

The 49-year-old revealed: "The last script that came to us was for Jessica to be a porn star.

"We were promised we would win an Oscar with that.

"I told them, 'Eh, we'll just buy a statue of a little man and keep our clothes on.' "

Ashlee Simpson engaged

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are reportedly engaged.

The Fall Out Boy frontman is rumoured to have proposed after his Live Earth performance in New Jersey on July 7 and Ashlee immediately said "Yes".


A source is quoted as saying: "Ashlee wasn't expecting it at all, it was a total surprise. Pete whipped out a big engagement ring, dropped down on one knee, and asked Ashlee to be his bride. Ashlee said yes right away."

The couple are reportedly keeping their happy news quiet because Ashlee, 22, fears the intrusive media attention which dogged her elder sister Jessica's failed marriage to Nick Lachey.

An insider added: "Ashlee and Pete are desperate to keep the engagement quiet for as long as they can so they can make wedding plans in peace. She definitely doesn't want a big circus wedding like Jessica had when she married Nick. All she wants is a simple ceremony with her family, his family, and a handful of people."

However, Ashlee's representative has rubbished engagement rumours saying they are "absolutely not true".

Meanwhile, 28-year-old Pete has confessed Ashlee helps him deal with his flying phobia.

He said: "She keeps me calm so I am able to handle it."
