Nicole Richie has won a parenting award.
The new mother received a Golden Pacifier Award from America's Babytalk magazine.
Nicole - who gave birth to daughter Harlow Winter, her first child with rumoured fiance Joel Madden, in January - was handed the accolade in recognition of her mothering skills.
Babytalk Editor-in-chief Lisa Moran said: "Honouring Nicole Richie with a Babytalk Golden Pacifier Award might come as a surprise to some, but we felt that she deserved some recognition for her turnaround since becoming a mom.
"She has grown up a lot since the arrival of little Harlow, and her creation of the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation has demonstrated her efforts to set a good example by shining a spotlight on important issues affecting today's families."
Before having Harlow, Nicole was famed for her partying with pal Paris Hilton. She has also beaten heroin addiction and spent time in jail during her pregnancy after being convicted of driving under the influence (DUI).
Talk show host Ricki Lake also received a Golden Pacifier for her documentary about home birth, 'The Business of Being Born'.
Lisa said: "We gave Ricki Lake a Golden Pacifier this year for bravely sharing her birthing experience in 'The Business of Being Born', sparking a much-needed conversation about the state of modern childbirth.
"She provided moms with a wonderful reminder that childbirth is about choices - it can, and should be, as individual as the child who punctuates it."

Nicole Richie Spends Eighty Minutes In Jail
Nicole Richie is a free woman after serving just over an hour of a four-day sentence in prison.
The pregnant socialite was booked, released and sent home in an 80-minute spell at the Century Regional Facility in Lynwood, California on Thursday (23Aug07).
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department explains prison population levels prompted officials to release Richie after the briefest prison spell.
In a press release, the sheriff's spokesman writes, "At this time, the criteria for a female arrestee sentenced to 30-days or less for a non-violent offense is as follows: the arrestee is booked, screened and usually released within 12 hours.
"This procedure is based on jail overcrowding to manage population levels mandated by Federal Court guidelines. Based on the mandated guidelines and Ms. Richie's 96 hours sentence, she will be treated in the same manner as other inmates with a similar sentence."
Richie was charged with a misdemeanor DUI on 27 July (07) and was sentenced to 36 months of summary probation. If she violates probation, she will have to serve one year in jail.
Richie was arrested on 11 Deceember (06) when she found driving her Mercedes Benz the wrong way down California State Route 134 highway in Burbank, California.
After failing an on-field sobriety test, Richie admitted to having smoked marijuana and taking a vicodin painkiller.
Richie is five months pregnant with rocker boyfriend Joel Madden's baby.

Regis said: "I hear you're going to present Nicole with a little engagement ring or something?"
Joel, who was on stage with his band ready to perform, replied: "Well I had been hoping it would be a surprise
but I guess it's not now."

Jail bird Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie has been sentenced to four days in jail after pleading guilty to DUI (driving under the influence) on Friday (27.07.07). 'The Simple Life' star - who is believed to be four months pregnant with her first child - entered the plea at California's Glendale courthouse. Nicole also agreed to serve a three-year probation term, enrol in an alcohol education programme and pay a $2,048 fine.
Los Angeles County Commissioner Steven Lubell told the troubled 25-year-old: "Someone could've gotten killed. You need to understand that driving under the influence is extremely dangerous."
Nicole was given the option of serving her time in a paid city jail - which is seen as a more comfortable option than a county jail.
She wasn't given a surrender date, but must complete her sentence before September 28.
Nicole, the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, arrived at court wearing a loose fitting black Moschino dress, apparently concealing her baby bump, clutching the arm of her boyfriend, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden.
The fashion icon will not be permitted to wear her designer heels in jail in case she attempts to use them as a weapon.
Burbank police Sergeant Thor Merich said: "She's not going to be wearing a miniskirt and pumps. We go bare minimum."
Nicole has a previous conviction for DUI from 2002 and California law states anyone with two DUI convictions must at least serve five day in jail.
The star was arrested on December 11, 2006 for driving on the wrong side of the road on a California highway on her return from Madden's house.
She told the arresting officers she had smoked marijuana and taken the strong painkiller Vicodin.
Nicole had originally pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Her 'The Simple Life' co-star and close friend Paris Hilton recently served 23 days in a Los Angeles county jail for driving with a suspended licence.

Nicole Richie's Under 18 Rehab Hell
Nicole Richie has been speaking about her rehab nightmare after she became hooked on heroin at 13. The hollywood It girl described how she knew she was addicted from the first time she tried the drug.
In an interview with Marie Claire she said: "I can remember the first time I tried it as a teenager-there was a lot of vomiting. But your body becomes physically dependent on it right away."
During her parents hostile divorce Nicole turned to heroin as an escape and soon become an addict.
After discovering the extent of the problem she was admitted into a rehab designed especially for teenagers.
"They didn't want me to quit cold turkey becuase I could have had a seizure so they gave me medication to come off it," she says looking back.
"Anyone who goes to rehab will say that they don't remember their first week or two becuase your body just goes through the shock of coming off whatever you were on." However this was nothing out of the ordinary for Hollywood and Nicole describes how there are even different types of rehab to chose from.
"There are prison ones and hotel ones, I was in under 18 rehab," she says.
Nicole also defended her troubled pal Lindsay Lohan, who was arrested yesterday for drug and driving charges just weeks after leaving rehab.
"I think it's unfair for anyone to be singled out the way she had been. How many of your friends got into trouble when they were 19 or 20?" she asked.
